RECORD EDITOR

The Record Editor allows you to add and edit data into records in your database.   Double clicking on an existing record, or adding a new record while on the Records Tab will bring up the Record Editor window.  

Show
The Record Editor will default to displaying records as they appear on your Handheld Form Design, this is designated by the button "Form View".   If you prefer to view All of the fields in alphabetical order, or do not have a form designed, you can click the "All Fields" button.

Category
The category dropdown indicates which category the individual record is filed under.

Field Name
Displays the field name.   This is not editable in the Record Editor.

Field Value
Displays the current value associated with each field.   When selected, most fields in your SmartList can be edited.   You may use your keyboards Tab key or the up/down keys to quickly navigate through fields.

Data Entry
In most cases, you can simply click on a field's cell within the Record Editor and type the data. The section below describe how to enter data into field types that accept data in other ways.

List Fields
To enter data in a List field, click on the field's cell. This will open the pull-down list. Select the item you want to enter and the list will close and display your selection.

Radio Button Fields
Select the option you wish to enter.

Checkbox Fields
To check a checkbox, click on the field's cell.   To uncheck a checkbox, click on the field's cell again.

Date Fields
Click on the down arrow to open a monthly calender. Use the forward and back arrows to select the correct month and year, then select the desired day. The calendar will close and the date you selected will appear in the field cell.

Time Fields
Click on the down arrow to open a time selector.   Values can be typed in or you can use the up down arrows to increase or decrease the value in each box.

Image Fields
Image fields work with bitmap, jpeg, and gif files.   When imported into the SmartList To Go desktop, the graphic will be resized to fit on the handheld screen.

Read Only Fields
The following fields will display the data contained within the field on the handheld, however, they cannot be modified on the desktop.

• Address Join
• Address Lookup

The following expression types will evaluate on the desktop, however, the expressions themselves cannot be edited.   If you would like to edit expressions on the desktop, the field type Advanced Expression supports full editing.

• Expression
• Conditional Expression

The following field types will not display data on the desktop and cannot be edited on the desktop.
