To export a SmartList to a Text file, follow these steps:

Highlight the SmartList you would like to Import data to in the list of SmartLists.

Click on the Data Link tab.

Click New Export to create a new Conversion Spec. This will open the Conversion Specs screen.

Enter a descriptive title in the Spec Name input.

Click Browse to open a standard window in which to select a name an location for the text file exported.

When it exports data to a text file, SmartList To Go will insert special characters between the data in each field so that it is clear later where one field stops and the next begins. These special characters are called delimiters. Use the Delimiter radio buttons to select from Comma, Tab or Semicolon delimiters.

Indicate the format date and time values that will be exported will have using the Date Format and Time Format controls. Indicate the order of month, day and year values using the Date Format radio buttons. Indicate AM/PM or 24-hour using the Time Format radio buttons and check the has seconds checkbox if the exported values should include seconds.

Check the First Record Contains Field Names checkbox to insert the names of each field as the first line in the text file you will produce.
To export the first line as data, leave the box unchecked.

Click Next to move forward to the Field mapping window.
This table shows the SmartList fields, their types, and the fields which will be included in the export. Use this table to ensure that only the SmartList fields you choose are exported.

SmartList Fields:
These are the existing fields within your SmartList.
Fields To Export:
These are the fields from the SmartList that you want to export.
All fields, or a subset can be chosen for export.
- Click the All >> button to add all of the SmartList Fields to the Fields To Export.
- Highlight an individual field in the SmartList Fields list and click the Field > to add the field to the Fields To Export.
- Highlight an individual field in the Fields To Export list and click < Remove to remove the field from the Fields To Export.
- Click the Save and Run button to Save the Conversion Spec and exprot the data from the SmartList immediately.
- Click the Save button to Save the Conversion Spec, but not export the data immediately.
(You may run this Spec later from the Data Link tab if you choose.)
