Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What's new in Documents To Go for Android?
A complete version by version revision history can be found here. At
a high level, Documents To Go 2.0 added support for Microsoft PowerPoint and
Adobe PDF files in addition to our existing Word and Excel file support offered
in version 1.0.
With the initial 2.0 release, we focused on application usability with smoother file scrolling and contextual menus for the most common actions. We also made a bunch of Cupcake-specific optimizations including a new Live Folder for displaying recently used documents and improved our support for the on-screen keyboard. The overall application functionality was enhanced along the way too.
To reinforce the usability goal and actually get more customers 'using' Documents To Go 2.0, we decided to give away the Word and Excel file viewing capabilities for FREE!
Version 2.0 proved to be a huge success and we now have thousands of Android customers downloading and installing every day. However, in an ongoing effort to keep our customers happy (which makes us happy), we have just released our latest version 2.003 update with the goal of addressing many of our top customer requests, including:
- Support for Android OS 2.0 based devices like the Motorola DROID and Nexus One
With the release of the popular Motorola DROID and plethora of Android devices now making their way to customers around the world, Documents To Go has been optimized to take advantage of the higher resolution screen sizes and increased processing power and memory. Per popular request, the latest version also adds support for on-screen zoom controls. Leave your laptop at home!
- Reduce the application size
We are happy to report that what was nearly 9MB installed previously is now down to 7MB - that's almost 25% smaller! We know it is still relatively large and your handheld memory is valuable, but please remember that Documents To Go is 4 powerful applications all in one! As we continue to add more viewing and editing functionality with each release, unfortunately it seems to come with a slightly larger application size. If you look at Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office on your desktop, they take up nearly 500MB, so we're looking pretty trim compared to them.
- Make the Full Version Unlock Key available to everyone!
With a problem that most every company loves to hear and hates to hear at the same time, one of the biggest complaints that we were getting in Android Market was that some customers could not purchase our 'Full Version Unlock Key' because paid apps were not available in their region. Well, get your wallets out because we have now made it possible to purchase the unlock key directly from DataViz!
- View and update charts
In an effort to be the most robust mobile office suite for Android, this version now adds support for viewing and updating charts in spreadsheets. So whether you are tracking your inventory or balancing your budget, you can now easily see what's up.
- More Languages
Documents To Go is now available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, traditional and simplified Chinese.

12. Why can't I download
and open my e-mail attachments?
Documents To Go supports e-mail attachments for many e-mail programs such as Gmail, RoadSync and K9. Unfortunately, if you are asking this question, you are probably using the built-in "Email" program to access your POP and IMAP accounts. The "Email" application does not currently let you download attachments other than pictures, which is completely out of our hands. We would expect that a future update will address this issue. In the meanwhile, you may want to forward your messages containing attachments to your Gmail account and download them from there. You can then view and edit them in Documents To Go.
13. How do
I send attachments?
When viewing files in Documents To Go, there is a "Send via Email" menu option. Simply select this and choose the appropriate e-mail application. Please note: the "Email" application will not appear as an option in the Documents To Go "Send via Email" list; however, you can compose a new message from within the Email application and use the menu to attach files.
14. How do I select text in
word processing files or a range of cells in spreadsheets?
To select a word or multiples lines of text in a word processing file, you must hold down the shift key while using the trackball to select the text you would like to format, delete, copy or paste. In spreadsheets, you must hold down the shift key while using the trackball to select the range of cells you would like to format. You can also select entire rows and columns by tapping on the row or column header.
Documents To Go 2.0 has added contextual menus which now make it easier to select text as well as a range of cells. Simply tap and hold the screen to select.
