  1. Which phones does it work on?
RoadSync is a standardized mobile ActiveSync client that will run on today's most popular mobile handsets. System requirements can be found here.

  2. How do I find out the model number of my phone?
The model number on supported phones is usually located under the battery. If you still aren't sure, please check with your carrier.

  3. How do I know if I have a data plan?
We suggest you check your wireless bill or your online account. As a rule of thumb, if you can access web pages on your phone, you should be in good shape. However, try navigating to a specific page like www.dataviz.com, to verify that that you are not restricted to specific pages or an operator WAP portal.

  4. What is Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync?
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync® is a protocol developed by Microsoft and licensed by DataViz. It allows applications to talk directly to MS Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 without any additional middleware server or desktop redirector. For more information, please visit Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync FAQ's.

  5. How do I know if I am using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007?
This is something you need to ask your IT department, as there is nothing visible that will indicate this. Click the button below to preview and send a pre-drafted e-mail to your IT department requesting the necessary information.

  6. What if I am not currently using Exchange Server?
If you or your company is not currently using Microsoft Exchange Server as your corporate e-mail server, you can still take advantage of secure, wireless and push e-mail on your mobile device by setting up your Gmail/Google Sync account in RoadSync. Click here to learn how.

  7. Where do I get my settings?
Your Exchange user name and server settings are typically the same as the ones you use to log-on to your computer, Outlook or for Outlook Web Access (OWA). If you do not know these, please ask your IT administrator. To send a an e-mail to your IT department requesting the correct information, click the button below:

  8. How do I enable mobile access on the Exchange Server?
Enabling mobile access for users on the server is only a matter of checking a few boxes (typically on by default.) Since this process slightly varies between Exchange 2003 and 2007, please consult the "Admin" section of the RoadSync product manual for specific steps.

  9. You mention “no middleware” in your product descriptions. What is middleware?
Prior to Exchange ActiveSync, access to native Exchange Server data was only possible through the use of third-party servers installed behind the corporate firewall or connected to your Exchange Server environment (for example, Good, RIM, Smartner, Visto, etc.). While these can be a appropriate solutions, they can also prove to be expensive for IT departments to manage and maintain. With the introduction of Exchange Server 2003, Microsoft has built-in many of the mobile connectivity features directly into Exchange, thus eliminating the need for additional middleware servers and service fees. As Microsoft continues to enhance the features and functionality of Exchange Server mobility, DataViz is committed to updating the RoadSync client application, to quickly take advantage of these features on the wireless handset of your choice.

  10. You mention "no desktop redirector" in your product descriptions. What is a redirector?
A redirector is software that resides on your desktop computer and “redirects”your email from your inbox to a 3rd party server. This server then forwards the email along to your mobile device. This solution works well when you are able to leave your desktop computer on while you are away from it. If you use a laptop that you take with you, or are unable to leave your computer on, you are unable to get the latest email delivered to your phone.

  11. Does RoadSync support Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2?
Yes, RoadSync supports select mobility features provided by Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2. These features include: Direct Push, Remote Wipe, IT Policies, Global Address List Lookup and Additional Data Compressions. To see which platforms support which features, please review our platform comparison chart. For more information about Service Pack 2, please visit Microsoft's Exchange 2003 SP2 website.

  12. Does RoadSync require the installation of a server or additional software on the Microsoft Exchange Server?
No. RoadSync is not middleware and does not require the installation of additional servers or software on the Microsoft Exchange Server. RoadSync is a client application that installs on the handset and directly communicates with the Exchange Server via the Exchange ActiveSync protocol over a secure SSL/HTTPS connection. Some specific features may require the latest service packs or versions of Exchange to be installed, but these are provided by Microsoft and not DataViz.

  13. Where can I find more info about the latest Exchange Server enhancements?
For more information about the latest Microsoft Exchange service packs, features and functionality, please check our product documentation and links.

  14. How can I take advantage of Direct Push and Remote Wipe?
Direct Push and Remote Wipe are part of Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003, which has been announced by Microsoft and is now available. These features are also available in Exchange 2007 and any new version moving forward. For more information about the latest Microsoft Exchange service packs, features and functionality, please check our product documentation and links. The specific RoadSync product manuals outline the necessary steps to implement and enforce these features as well.

  15. How does RoadSync deal with SSL/Root Certificates?
The device includes a series of Certificate Authority (CA) root certificates issued by various companies. A CA root certificate provides a trusted "third-party" to verify the ownership of SSL certificates issued to companies and websites. When syncing RoadSync via SSL, the root certificate on the server must match a trusted root certificate on the phone in order to synchronize without asking for user permission to make a connection. It is not recommended to enable Direct Push synchronization without having a matching set of root certificates on the server and phone. When using a root certificate on the server that does not exist in the list of trusted root certificates on the phone, the certificate should be installed on the phone manually. For more detailed information regarding certificates, please review the following TechDoc.

  16. Does RoadSync support multiple Exchange mailboxes?
RoadSync does not support multiple Exchange mailboxes email accounts at the same time. However, you can switch between accounts by changing your settings in the RoadSync application.

  17. Does RoadSync support mailbox subfolders?
Yes, some RoadSync clients do support the synchronization of mailbox subfolders. Please review our platform comparison chart for details on which feature are available on which platforms.

  18. Does RoadSync support syncing over WLAN (WiFi) connections?
Yes. During the next sync, you will be prompted to select the new access point. WiFi is not available on all devices. Please consult the device-specific product manual and materials for more details.
